A 4  hour fast is recommended. We understand that fasting for a child or infant can be distressing. Please withhold the last feed if possible. Every effort will be made to schedule your child's exam according to this schedule.

Pediatric Renal Ultrasound

A full bladder is preferred but not always possible for young children.  Please encourage your child to drink 2-3 glasses of water, juice or milk within an hour prior to the exam and avoid emptying.  A post void image of the bladder is sometimes required as part of the ultrasound exam, but again for children who are not toilet trained this may be difficult.
